CICADA Microdrons

The research unit of the US Navy NRL is working on the development of CICADA microdrons, named after their organic analogue — cicadas.

The peculiarity of such drones is that they do not have engines and are disposable — designed for a single use in one military operation.

The task of these drones is to collect information about the enemy. They are deployed at a distance of 20 km from the target, after which they glide down to the desired location.

UniWave200: a power station imitating whale breathing

The company Wave Swell Energy (Australia) is testing the UniWave200 wave power device, the design of which resembles the cetaceans' blowhole.

Sea water creates pressure inside the unit, thereby pushing the air on the turbine, which generates electrical energy.

The capacity of the experimental model is 200 kW.

The efficiency of such systems is comparable to coal-fired power stations'.

LOCUST: Combat Locusts

The U.S. military (NRL) is working on a combat drone swarm aimed to attack the LOCUST ships that even the most advanced defense systems cannot resist.

The LOCUST includes up to 30 Coyote drones (one-meter-long drones with deployable wings).

During a mission, all the drones form a single combat unit, which makes them easy to control.

Moreover, when striking the target, the drones are capable of identifying the most vulnerable spots.

How much does Web 3.0 lack for perfection?

Web 3.0 is a concept of the next generation Internet, but the range of possibilities that it opens is a far cry from its original intent.

What is Web3 and why hasn’t it still reached its perfect state?

A perfect example of a Web3 service is nonfungible tokens (NFT).
Thus, most of the art that is currently circulating on-chain is in fact a combination of URLs that don’t store images on-chain — contrary to the tenets of Web3.

As a result, such an architectural approach creates a strong dependence on centralized data providers, such as Amazon. These data providers could potentially go offline at any moment, meaning that the data and the NFT art would be lost forever.

But there is one interesting alternative: TON Sites.

Traffic in the new decentralized TON internet will pass through The Open Network’s nodes, which have a new ADNL protocol, meaning that data will never be stored by a single entity.

We just have to wait for the TON Sites system and meet true Web 3

The world's first cyborg

Neil Harbisson was born colorblind. But he always dreamed of feeling colors.

He managed to accomplish his dream by developing a device implanted in the brain. It consists of a camera that translates colors into 360 different sound waves and transmits directly to Neil's brain, as well as a wearable 1 kg computer and a software chip implanted in his skin.

Besides, Harbisson can see not only the regular optical radiation range, but also the infrared and ultraviolet energy.
