On 30 January 2018, Rob Leathern, Product Management Director of Facebook, published an announcement banning ICO and cryptocurrency ads on the social network. Prohibited content section of Facebook’s Advertising policies is updated with paragraph 29 on Prohibited Financial Products and Services
https://www.facebook.com/policies/ads/prohibited_content/prohibited_financial_products_and_services.
Examples of the ads’ content include: “Click here to learn more about our no-risk cryptocurrency that enables instant payments to anyone in the world.” and “New ICO! Buy tokens at a 15% discount NOW!”
The rules apply to Facebook, Audience Network and Instagram.
Rob Leathern also noted that the framing is intentionally broad as the policy will be revisited and refined over time.
