NPS and Russian Railways have started field tests of the HSR ballastless track at their new site. This marks the first time the track was assembled in field conditions.
NPS workers installed 207 NGP 4.0 rail slabs, with a robotic total station checking their position in real time to within a millimeter, letting them lay 24 slabs a day. Two turnouts by Eltesa, an NPS subsidiary, are also installed, enabling remote and automatic switching with continuous diagnostics. The track is now being tested under the load of an operating high-speed train, with several cars converted into a mobile lab to assess ride smoothness and infrastructure impact.
NGP 4.0, the key element of the system, is a composite slab of high-strength concrete and elastic polymer with a 50-year service life, engineered for fast repairs within short night windows. The test results will confirm the track structure’s design specifications, help refine installation and operation technologies, and prepare engineering solutions for use across the entire first Moscow–St. Petersburg HSR line.
P.S. Precision first, velocity after.
