Please repost this to help us to connect with dream projects focused on interspecies design.
Together with Vitali Valtanen (Instagram, LinkedIn), researcher and industrial designer, lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts, Mark Mefed, independent critical animal studies researcher, and Buliash (Instagram, LinkedIn), author of Réexister and Zerowaste.lab, independent artist, designer, and environmental engineer, we are excited to announce our collaborative research spanning multiple disciplines.
"Interspecies Coexistence" aims to challenge traditional notions of space arrangement, typically dictated by human needs, and champion an inclusive approach that benefits various forms of life. Interspecies design encompasses a range of perspectives and practices that advocate for species diversity, recognizing non-human animals as cultural, political, and social actors.
In our shared interspecies spaces, conflicts often arise between the agency of animals and human dominance in both natural and urbanized environments, along with the human vision of how these spaces should be organized. Animals assert their presence and claim space, while humans either attempt to remove them or confine certain species to habitats specifically designated for them.
We are open to projects that aim to establish communication with animals through object-spatial dialogue and are particularly interested in collaborations with parks, nature reserves, shared urban spaces, museums, and other environments that include a diverse range of peer users.
