We are continuing to introduce the tracks of the Arctic Laboratory, organized jointly with the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA).

🤩The track organised by the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA) focuses on developing a draft BRICS interstate standard for scientific and technical cooperation.

🤩Participants will work on the following task: Develop a draft interstate BRICS standard for scientific and technical cooperation, applicable to existing or potential cooperation projects in the Russian Arctic zone — covering everything from terminology and procedures to specific requirements, similar in approach to GOST, ISO, and IEC standards.

📌The track is open exclusively to international participants and will be conducted entirely in English.

📚We welcome participants with backgrounds in international cooperation, standardization and technical regulation, engineering, Arctic studies, law, and analytics.

Dear Students,

We want to remind you about some important rules when interacting with the police.👮‍♂️

🔵 Be polite, remain calm, do not resist physically.

🔵 Always carry your passport, valid migration registration, migration card, student ID card, and if applicable, a certificate of medical examination and a document confirming completion of mandatory fingerprinting and photography procedures.

🔵 If taken into custody by police, immediately inform the University via Emergency Line: +7 985 040-13-55, specifying the police station or department where you are being held.

🔵 Remember—you have the right to show your passport but do not hand it over directly to an officer unless specifically requested.

🔵 Do not sign any documents if you don’t understand the text in Russian language.You have a right for the official translator from the police or for the University representative for the same role. In case of facing any difficulties, contact our Centre via Emergency Line +7 985 040-13-55.

Please remember that these measures are carried out within the legal framework and aim primarily at protection of public order and your personal safety.

❗️ HSE electronic student ID or your plastic pass to the HSE buildings are valid when using Moscow Social Card

If a fare inspector asks you to show your student ID when you use your Moscow Social Card, please keep in mind:

➡️ The electronic student ID or your plastic pass to the HSE buildings have the same legal validity as a paper student ID and can be used to confirm your student status.

➡️ You can present your electronic student ID via Gosuslugi or MAX. Make sure beforehand that ID is available at the portal. If you have any issues, don't hesitate to visit the Student Service Centre at 11 Pokrovsky Bulvar, Entrance 5.

➡️ If a fare inspector has any questions, you can show them the official clarification issued by HSE University — a screenshot of the document is attached to this post.

➡️ You can also obtain an original signed copy of the clarification in person at the Student Service Centre: 11 Pokrovsky Bulvar, Entrance 5.

We recommend saving the screenshot of the clarification so that you can show it to a fare inspector together with your electronic student ID if needed.

Weddings and Bride’s Redemption: A Theatrical Event

Traditional Russian weddings start with an entertaining bride's redemption ceremony where the groom must pass various challenges set by friends and relatives of the bride. Couples exchange rings and bite into pieces of wedding bread (karavai); whoever gets the bigger piece will supposedly lead the family according to old beliefs.

Epiphany Bathing: Spiritual Purification

On Epiphany Day, believers traditionally plunge into ice-cold water in specially cut holes called “Jordan.” This holy water is believed to cleanse both body and soul for those brave enough to take part.

Ivan Kupala Night: Magical Evening

During Ivan Kupala celebrations on June 6th night, people jump over bonfires for good luck and health, search for the mythical blooming fern flower said to grant wishes, and float garlands on rivers to predict their future marriages.

But this is just a small glimpse into Russia's cultural treasures!

Every Russian takes pride in their country with its rich culture and deep roots. Today we’ll talk about folk holidays, customs, and traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation and continue to live in the hearts of our fellow citizens.

Here are a few examples of amazing Russian traditions:

Maslenitsa: Farewell to Winter☀️

The brightest and tastiest holiday before Lent begins. Homes fill with the aroma of freshly baked pancakes, symbolic of the sun and warmth. People organize fairs, play snowball fights, dance around a large straw effigy representing winter, which is then burned as a farewell to the cold season.
