In|at the beginning, aren’t the same?
– Of course, NO.
Because:
We use ‘at the beginning’ to talk about exact point of time:
📎At the beginning of the film, I had to leave the cinema (so at the exact time after the film had started, I left the building)
‘In the beginning’ implies the period of time:
📎In the beginning of the 1980s… (I mean that smth had been happening for some time, not at once)
So:
At the beginning – point of time
In the beginning – period of time
