While we are certainly happy for would-be owners of this striking home, the
good news is not that it is now back on the market, but that, unlike the Zimmerman house recently destroyed by Hollywood celebrities, it was fully and carefully renovated back in 2018. The house was restored to its former glory by a team of experts that included Jim Tyler of Craig Ellwood and Associates, who had worked alongside Ellwood since 1965, and Barton Jahncke, an architect with Previous Partners and architecture researcher with a keen interest in Ellwood’s oeuvre. Just like Ellwood himself who would always furnish his buildings with latest and swankest designs for marketing purposes, the existing owners made sure to turn the house into a time capsule mixing and matching a handful of iconic mid-century designs. Considering the Miesian influence, Mies van der Rohe’s cantilevered chairs seem especially fitting here.
To top all these cherries with yet another cherry, here’s how Jahncke recalls the way neighbors felt about this renovation, "When I stand out in front having meetings [by cell phone], people clap." Let’s give Jahncke et al. a round of applause too, shall we?
