Russian House in Bangladesh:
A memorial ceremony commemorating the heroism of the naval commandos of Operation Jackpot and remembering Yury Redkin, the Soviet sailor who lost his life while clearing mines and sunken vessels at Chittagong Port after Bangladesh’s Liberation War, was held in Dhaka.
The event was organized by Smriti Ekattor and the Russian House in Dhaka, with the support of 1971 Our Pride, bringing together veterans of Operation Jackpot, freedom fighters, guests and members of the public to remember the historic naval operation of the 1971 Liberation War.
🎙 Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, addressed the gathering, highlighting the extraordinary courage of the Bangladeshi naval commandos and the importance of preserving the memory of the Liberation War for future generations. She also emphasized the enduring friendship between the peoples of Bangladesh and Russia.
🇷🇺 A special statement was read on behalf of H.E. Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh, conveying deep respect for the Soviet sailors who took part in the dangerous mine-clearing mission in Chittagong.
⚓️ During the ceremony, veterans recalled their experiences of Operation Jackpot, which was carried out simultaneously at Chittagong, Mongla, Chandpur and Narayanganj on 15–16 August 1971. The daring attacks targeted Pakistani and foreign vessels and disrupted the operation of major ports.
🕯 The event also paid tribute to Yury Redkin, who lost his life on 13 July 1973 while participating in the Soviet mine-clearing and salvage operations at Chittagong Port. His sacrifice remains a significant part of the history of Soviet-Bangladeshi friendship and cooperation.
🏅 Five freedom fighters and veterans present at the ceremony were honored with commemorative crests for their contribution and service:

* Syed Ahmed Majumder
* Engr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman
* Abdul Gofur
* Momin ullah patwary
🎬 The programme featured the national anthems of Bangladesh and Russia, a documentary screening, a posthumous tribute to Yury Redkin, performances of songs associated with the secret signals of Operation Jackpot, and a discussion with veterans of the historic operation.
