The InteRussia Fellowship for Young Actors from BRICS+ Countries Concludes in Moscow 🕰

On 2 October, the six-week InteRussia fellowship in theatre arts for young actors from BRICS+ countries came to a close at the New Stage of the GITIS Training Theatre. Participants immersed themselves in the key methods of the Russian theatre school, completed an intensive acting programme, and explored Moscow’s leading theatrical and cultural venues.

The highlight of the closing day was the final performance prepared under the guidance of GITIS teachers. This year the fellows worked on Anton Chekhov’s one-act play The Proposal, presenting fragments on stage in English and their national languages and interpreting the text through different theatrical genres and traditions.

What happened during the fellowship?

⭐️ Studied the Stanislavsky system and its influence on world theatre, as well as Meyerhold’s biomechanics

⭐️ Took intensive courses in acting technique, stage speech, stage movement, and play & role analysis

⭐️ Met with Sergei Bezrukov and Vladislav Miller, Chair of the Youth Council of the Union of Theatre Workers of Russia

⭐️ Participated in the round table “Between Stanislavsky and the Present: Where Is Theatre Heading?” at the Stanislavsky Museum

⭐️ Visited the Moscow Art Theatre, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Stanislavsky Museum, Gorky Film Studio, Moskino Film Studio, the “Heritage. Theatre. Greats” exhibition, and Anton Chekhov’s museum-estate in Melikhovo

Over six weeks the programme became a vibrant space for professional growth, creative exchange, and new international connections. We thank our fellows for their talent, energy, and openness, and wish them every success on their artistic journeys 🧡

Happy Teacher's Day! 🍂

Every year on October 5, the world celebrates World Teachers' Day.

Proclaimed by UNESCO in 1994, it honors teachers, mentors, and everyone who shapes the minds of the next generation. It's marked in more than 100 countries, including Russia 📚

So today, we're turning the spotlight on you, dear professors

You're the ones who open the lab doors in the morning, who stay late to explain "just one more time," who turn a nervous "I'm not sure I can do this" into "wait, I think I've got it!" 💡

Our fellows arrive with suitcases, big dreams, and many questions. Thanks to you, they leave with new skills and new ideas. You're their guides to a new culture and a whole new professional world.

That kind of mentorship can't be measured in credits or certificates. It's measured in confidence, in curiosity, and in the way your students talk about you years later.

Thank you for your patience, your wisdom, and your belief in our fellows.

We wish you inspiration, brilliant students, and new discoveries ! ✨

Our fellows presented the excerpts from the Chekhov’s play “Proposal” in their mother tongues, showcasing that art is beyond any borders.

Showing you the preparation for the performance ❤️

Is Stanislavski still the key to understanding modern theatre? 🎭

For many actors around the world, his name is almost synonymous with Russian theatre. But the theatre Stanislavski knew is long gone — so what has remained of his system, and what has changed?

That became the starting point for the round table “Between Stanislavski and the Present Day: Where Is Theatre Heading?”, held at the K.S. Stanislavski House-Museum on September 24.

The discussion brought together:
📌 Director of the Moscow Art Theatre Museum Pavel Vashchilin,
📌 theatre scholar Pavel Rudnev,
📌 three InteRussia fellows representing different theatre traditions — from Ethiopia, China and Brazil.

As Pavel Vashchilin put it: “Theatre knows no borders. The best way to prove it is to bring together people who speak different languages but think in the language of the stage.”

Before leaving, the fellows explored the House-Museum, visiting Stanislavski’s study and the historic interiors of his Opera Studio. They also saw the first Russian edition of My Life in Art, now on display at the museum.

And what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear “Russian theatre”? 🩵
