21-Year-Old Belarusian Volunteer Died In Ukraine War
Mikhail Shavelski took a break in his studies in Poland to support the Ukrainian warriors.
On October 11, 2022, at the age of 21,
Mikhail Shavelski, a Belarusian student of evangelical theology at the Christian Theological Academy, died of wounds. This was reported by the
press-center of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland.
Before coming to Poland, he studied psychology at Hrodna State University named after Yanka Kupala. He was expelled for political reasons, and was supposed to be drafted into the Belarusian army.
Therefore, the parish in Hrodna turned to the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland with a request to allow the youngster to study.
Later, Mikhail received a scholarship from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland and the Martin Luther Union (Martin-Luther-Bund), and in January 2021 began his theological studies in Poland, at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw.
Having found out about the Russian attack on Ukraine, Mikhail took a break in his studies, and went to war to support the Ukrainian fighters.
