Born near my village into a priest's family, he frequently traveled with his father on official trips during his childhood.
While studying at university in Moscow, he took tuberculosis and decided to move to Odessa, later to Argentina, where he extensively studied Patagonia and the Cordillera. His famous work is titled "An Attempt at a Comparative Study of the Flora of Tierra del Fuego". He died young of a fever in Uruguay.
