☦This marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of the botanist and explorer Mikhail Albov.

Born near my village into a priest's family, he frequently traveled with his father on official trips during his childhood.

While studying at university in Moscow, he took tuberculosis and decided to move to Odessa, later to Argentina, where he extensively studied Patagonia and the Cordillera. His famous work is titled "An Attempt at a Comparative Study of the Flora of Tierra del Fuego". He died young of a fever in Uruguay.

This is a book about the life of Schema-nun Makaria (1926–1993) from the Smolensk region. Born with a physical disability affecting her legs, she could only crawl from the age of three onwards. During the hardships of the 1940s, she was forced to wander and lived on the streets for two years; later, a nun from the closed Vyazma convent took her into her modest home. Although Schema-nun Makaria endured a life of great hardship, she was granted the gifts of foresight and healing. Until her final days, Mother Makaria prayed and received numerous pilgrims while confined to her bed.

☦I ask for prayers for the repose of Anatoly. He was a deeply devout Orthodox Christian, the head of the "Yermak" sports club, and a coach. Anatoly had long been bringing his trainees to Holy Communion; he had icons in his club, and helped organize cross-processions. He suffered a stroke this week. Prayers over the next forty days are urgently needed.
