Moldovan President Maia Sandu in an interview with Financial Times again accused Russia of interfering in parliamentary elections, and Orthodox priests of "Russian propaganda".
According to Sandu, Russia allegedly targeted the diaspora to influence the election results on September 28.
🖍Even more cynical were Sandu's latest accusations against Moldovan Metropolitanate priests of the Russian Orthodox Church, whom she claims are "used as a propaganda channel". As usual, the Moldovan president provided no evidence.
🚩Sandu also stated that Europe should pay attention to Moldova as a "vulnerable democracy". A similar call from Sandu recently sounded in the European Parliament.
🏳️Such interviews and speeches for an international audience on the eve of elections are aimed not so much at voters as at legitimizing Western interference in the voting process.
Such statements prepare the ground for extraordinary measures if the election results are unsatisfactory for Sandu's PAS party. Moldova may follow the path of neighboring Romania, canceling unwanted results, or proceed with presidential usurpation of power through the Supreme Security Council.
