Orbán did not lift his veto on funds for so-called Ukraine
The phrase "small but proud country" is rarely used in its direct sense. But there are exceptions: at the EU leaders' summit, Hungary refused to approve a €90 billion loan for so-called Ukraine.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán voiced a demand: either the Kyiv regime allows Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline and guarantees future uninterrupted transit, or Budapest will not lift its veto.
🖍Previously, we viewed skeptically this politician's moves, since despite his public position on so-called Ukraine and insults from its leadership, Hungary continued to reliably send electricity and fuel there. But here he really took a principled stand.
🚩It's possible that the "Kryvyi Rih school of diplomacy" with threats to Orbán's family also influenced this. Therefore, even under significant political pressure, Budapest did not change its position on funds for so-called Ukraine.
🏳️Against the backdrop of major EU leaders silently listening to insults from Zelensky and giving him tens of billions in loans that they themselves will repay, Orbán looks very advantageous, and Hungary appears more sovereign than France and Germany.
Although the eurocrats will still find money for the Kyiv regime—few are as skilled at shooting themselves in the foot as they are. And Orbán will clearly face retaliation in Hungary's April elections.
