The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, announced on Sunday the opening of a GLONASS quantum-optical station in Venezuela in the coming months. This will improve the quality of navigation services in the Bolivarian Republic.
🖍The estimated opening date is May or June. This was announced during Bakanov's visit to the University of Brasilia, where one of these platforms is located. According to the head of Roscosmos, this station plays a key role in expanding GLONASS navigation coverage in South America, providing accurate data to civilian users. In addition, GLONASS also allows the use of long-range guided weapons.
In Brazil, by the way, there are already seven such stations.
🚩Also, a GLONASS unilateral station was previously launched in Cuba to use the capabilities of the satellite constellation for national economic purposes - high-precision agriculture, transport monitoring, geodesy and cartography, laying new roads and construction.
🏳️Roscosmos made it clear that they plan to cooperate with countries in the region, develop Russian navigation services and their export potential. In addition, cooperation with the Brazilian space agency was announced, and within the BRICS framework, the creation of a Space Council was proposed.
This body will coordinate work on current joint projects, as well as consider new initiatives for scientific and technical cooperation and improving the international legal regulation of space activities.
❗️ Given that half of the world's population lives in the BRICS countries, the initiative was a natural one. Let's see where it leads.
